Steak, Steak
and More Steak!
Remember, I mentioned the $5.00 lunch at Pine
Tavern on Rt. 34 in Old Bridge? Well, we went back
tonight for their Monday night steak special. The
special menu offered Sirloin Steak, Rib Eye, Filet
Mignon, Strip Steak and Skirt Steak and two sides
for $10.00 - it’s a 12 minute ride and I toldyou the
address and phone number in last article but have to
tell you - best Skirt Steak I’ve ever had. I had mashed
sweet potatoes and sauteed spinach as my sides. Yes,
I cleaned my plate. Don’t think you can find a better
meal for that money, so please take the little journey
and enjoy. Wednesday nights are Pasta Nights for
$5.95. Haven’t tried that one but certainly will go back
to see if its good. We’ll let you know when we try it.
Who knows where we will dine at next month?S
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will keep our group
from sacrificing and going to find a good meal for a
good deal for us all.
Thank you,
The Food Mavens, Bea, Mary and Carolee

It’s called “Sweet Lew’s” at 6 East Main St.,
Freehold, NJ - 732-308-1887, directly across from
the Courthouse. This hidden treasure has been in our
midst for years and has stayed successful because it
has stayed small and only serves breakfast and lunch.
There’s nothing fancy, elegant or expensive about
Sweet Lew’s. It’s an old fashioned sandwich shop with
a counter, swivel seats, good food, good portions and
friendly faces - and good prices. You can get a four
dollar breakfast or go for the ten dollar steak and eggs
for breakfast. Sandwiches, home made soups, plentiful
salads and super sandwiches are listed on the lunch
fare. Again, this menu is very price friendly. Mary,
Bea and I all decided to order the same lunch. We had
a Neptune Melt Sandwich and split a large order of
Sweet Potato Fries. The sandwiches were made from
a tasty, fresh seafood salad, topped with Monterey
Jack Cheese and tomatoes on whole wheat bread and
nicely grilled. That and a fresh cup of coffee, smiling
waitress made visit worth while. I’m anxious to try
breakfast some day soon when we are all available to
make the short trip to Freehold. So, if you’re ever in
the mood for just a good cup of soup and sandwich,
get a few friends together and you never know who
you will run into at “Sweet Lew’s.”

Who likes seafood?
I like most every food I see, HaHa! The Lobster
House is a small but cozy little place next to the Jewish
Heritage Museum near Top Tomato in Freehold. The
girls and I stumbled on a special they offer from 11-3
on Tues., Wed., and Thurs., but the restaurant is open
7 days a week. The owner told us he also owns this
restaurant in Staten Island and has a pizza restaurant
in Little Italy. Who brought him here, we asked? He
lives in Freehold, this area is home to him. Anyway,
back to the special. On those days, during those hours
you can get a steamed lobster, 1 lb. and that comes
right from the big lobster tank you see entering the
door, baked French fries or pasta and some warm Italian
bread for $9.99! And if you look in your coupon
books there is a $5.00 OFF your entire check for you!
I kid you not! Mary and I remember the Old Clam
Broth House in Hoboken and we love clams and they
also had a special on clams on the half shell, one doz.
for $6.99 and of course we had to have them - little
piglets that we are! Bea had grilled shrimp, a lovely
salad and French fries. We decided unanimously that
this is a definite do over for us. We love seafood, their
menu is lovely and reasonable both lunch and dinner
and they have daily specials. Again, a short ride to Top
Tomato Shopping Center, take the Jewish Heritage
Museum Tour for free, take your coupon, enjoy some
fresh seafood and enjoy the day.
Will let you know where our wondering taste buds
will take us next month.
Thank you,
