ida amore
Interviewed by Shirley Freedman
Our new Trustee, Ida Amore was born in Ben-sonhurst, Brooklyn, and quoting her, "many years ago." She graduated from New Utrecht High School and then attended Adelphi
Academy to hone her secretarial skills so she could work in her father's business which was window displays. She was artistic as well to be able to do this.
Ida was married in 1944 to Gene Amore and had three children. When her youngest was four years old, she went to beauty school, obtained a license and worked at a local beauty shop. After four years, being ambitious as she was, she opened her own salon. She did very well there. After a severe tragedy in her life, she closed her salon. After a while she had to keep busy so with her experience as an entrepreneur she got a job as a Director in a Beauty School in the neighborhood.
Her husband was also born in Brooklyn and worked for Proctor and Gamble but left there when the company moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey. Ida would not move to New Jersey at that time as her entire family lived in Brooklyn. So her husband gave up his job and worked for her father who was well established in business. They eventually moved to Staten Island to be near their married children. Ida retired from work at sixty-eight.
Her son Anthony is retired. He is married to Joanne and has three children, Christine, Lisa and Anthony. Her daughter, Roseanne is married to Vincent and also has three children, Gina, Gerry and Vincent, Jr.
Ida has lived in Covered Bridge since 2001. She is involved in fundraising for The American Cancer Society. She is a member of Covered Bridge Christian Neighbors, and Chapter III. She cooks a lot and enjoys making care packages for her children. Being a very active, energetic person, she decided to become more involved in Covered Bridge and became a Trustee candidate. Thankfully, she was elected and has high hopes for the betterment of Covered Bridge.
